"And don't you dare go outside or I'll smack you so hard, your father will feel it... wherever he is." It wasn't the first time Naomi was hearing this, given a different threat was used each time. She didn't know how her mother knew so many ways to cause pain, but she gained she had acquired such information from her well know job as a wench of Tortuga.
Jessica Kings, Naomi's mother, was dressed up like any other wench; Sky blue and gold dress pushed up her ample bosom, her dark brown hair put up high and decked with ribbons. She looked like a bird's nest ready to topple over, yet she somehow kept it up. Her face was caked with make up that made her as pale as ghost.
"Yes, mother..." Naomi was more than considered an adult woman now, but she was still being told to stay home while her mother made money pleasing men. It made Naomi sick to her stomach, and she wished she didn't have to think about it. Jessica frowned.
"Promise me, girl." She said.
"I promise I won't leave." Naomi rolled her eyes, sinking into the worn wooden chair she sat on in their shack of a house. Jessica patted her daughter on the head and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"Thank you, darling. Mum'll be home soon." With that being said, she was gone. The door clicked closed, Naomi's bright eyes watching it. She gave it a good few minutes before grabbing a hat from her room and dashing outside. This had only started a week or so ago, but Naomi enjoyed sneaking out. For 23 years, Tortuga had been a mystery to her. But now it was open to her eyes, and she was embracing it. The people, the smells (as disturbing as they were) and the drink were all different. A smile touched her face as she slipped between people, pulling the hat over her eyes. She was dressed in males clothing to hide her womanly figure, and she prayed it worked. Now... it was up to the people what happened this night.
